Remembering Crossville 2001
Crossville was the first SSAA two day World Series, we offered Friday "Warm Up" games as well as a double elimination bracket Saturday. Pictures are of the fields and crowd at the park. Teams liked the set-up, score tower with the walk through space with concessions, two fields level, two fields lower. If the motel situation was better in the area we would try to hold a tourney there again.
The 2001 series was special because it was our first with Ohio, Georgia, and Kentucky participating. Also special was Jack Ritchie winnig 19u in his last year with the boys he had won so many tourneys with. Wayne Miller had the Winesburg Warriors up and running in 16u as they continued the streak that saw them win every World Series they played in from 14u-19u. John Clift and the Spirit 14u played very well in winning 14u at Crossville. So much fun to look back at these tournaments and relive the excitment.
Allison Smith and "A Winning Attitude" 10u gang from Shelbyville gave us our first 10u bracket along with the pick-up team that joined them, Lee Randolph had his Smith County Dodgers fine tuned as they beat a fine Woods Construction team from Lebanon for the 12u title.
